What the Plus stands for: a plan, a skill, and a product
The plan
No two bed bug jobs are alike, so nothing starts until there is a plan. John makes it at the inspection, based on how severe the problem is and the condition of the home, and he walks you through it before you decide.
The plan matters because the work changes from one home to the next. Its purpose is to ensure each area gets the attention it needs, and the inspection is where John decides which areas need the most attention. The whole home is treated either way.
The skill
Applied incorrectly, a bed bug treatment can be unsafe, fail, and damage your belongings. Applied right, it goes where bed bugs hide, and in some spots the spray can be injected into cracks and crevices. John says the real secret is the years of experience behind each job.
Much of that skill involves knowing where bed bugs hide in a piece of furniture and how to apply the product correctly. It comes from doing bed bug work and nothing else.
The product
John uses only the highest-grade product. Any licensed pest control company can buy the same products. He adds a blend he developed that works faster than the products alone. A bed bug or an egg that the treatment hits directly dies within 7 to 10 minutes. The treatment also leaves a residual that lasts several months and kills bed bugs at every stage.
The residual is the reason the treatment can deal with what it did not reach during the visit. A bed bug hidden deep in a couch frame is not hit by the spray. It still has to come out to feed, and when it does, it crosses a treated surface.
Why Pro-Treat Plus covers the whole home, every time
Bed bugs travel on clothes and belongings and move through a home with the people who live in it. When someone moves from the bed to the couch, the bed bugs can go with them. Treat the bedroom alone, and they are still in the living room.
John takes his time on each job. Everything that needs treating is treated with the proper products, and the same safety steps are followed every time. The whole home is also what the warranty rests on: the one-year warranty requires the entire home to be treated, so no room is left out. It also requires the prep to be done and the second visit to happen.

In mobile homes, RVs, and vehicles
Pro-Treat Plus is not only for houses. Mobile and manufactured homes, RVs, and vehicles, including buses and fleets, are treated with the same process and get the same second visit. John compares the work to a good mechanic's: with the proper knowledge and tools, any problem can be fixed. In his view, no type of structure gives him more trouble than another, and he has what he needs to solve a bed bug problem in any of them.
In apartments, offices, hotels, and rentals
In an apartment or a townhome, the process is the same on a smaller scale, and John also considers whether an adjoining unit is involved. An office or other business gets a plan of its own, worked out with management.
Treatment day, step by step
1. Before John starts
John went over your prep at the inspection, and it needs to be done before he arrives. Beds are stripped. The linens and clothes he pointed out are washed, dried on high heat, and sealed in bags. Clutter is cleared from the areas being treated. If the prep is not finished, John decides case by case whether he can treat.
How to prepare, step by step2. The first treatment
John works through the whole home with a hand sprayer and a hand duster. Beds, couches, recliners, and every other piece of furniture are treated, along with the baseboards in each room. Most jobs take an hour. A bigger home, more furniture, a lot of clutter, or any special circumstances add time. On a large job that needs extra attention, he brings in his son, who knows the same process.
3. Out of the house for 4 hours
Everyone leaves while the treatment dries completely. When you come back, put clean sheets on the bed. You can sleep in it that night.
4. Between the visits
Here is what can happen before John comes back. On about one in ten jobs, you may see a straggler or a newly hatched bed bug. When that happens, the product is doing its work: it irritates the bed bugs, they try to get away from it, and the residual kills them. John encourages you to leave as much of your prep in place as you can, bagged clothes included. If something worries you, call John at 623-451-0541.
5. The second visit
John comes back two weeks after the first treatment. The second visit is less intense, more of a freshening up. The prep is the same as for the first treatment.
6. Knowing it is over
John leaves no monitors or traps behind. You will know the problem is solved when the activity stops. If you see a bed bug after both visits, call John. We come back promptly and fix it, and that is what the one-year warranty is for.
What the one-year warranty covers
Does the treatment kill bed bug eggs?
Yes, in two ways. An egg that the treatment hits directly is killed. An egg in a protected spot will still hatch, and when the young bed bug comes out to feed, the residual kills it.
That is also why there are two visits. Bed bug eggs hatch within two weeks, so John returns then to knock down any newly hatched bugs. That breaks the egg cycle.
The two weeks are chosen on purpose. By the second visit, the eggs that were out of reach during the first treatment have had time to hatch, and the young bed bugs have been on treated surfaces since they emerged.
Why it is a chemical treatment and not heat
Heat has no residual. In John's experience, when the temperature comes back down, a bug that got deep enough into a wall to survive is free to start over. He has re-treated many homes after another company's heat treatment.
Heat vs. our chemical treatment, compared
Is the treatment safe for children and pets?
Yes, once it has dried. Every product is mixed and applied according to its label directions. Before John starts the treatment, medication, toys, and food are put away, and pets are out of the house. Everyone is out of the home until the treatment has dried completely, which takes 4 hours. After that, it is safe for children and pets.
Safety is a very high priority for John, and it is the reason for each of these steps. If you are not sure whether something should be put away, ask him at the inspection, when he goes over your prep.

What Phoenix-area customers say about the treatment
From a Bed Bugs Arizona customer “I looked around and saw lots of dead bugs. Nothing moving. I was blown away of how good it worked. John also follows up in 2 weeks to the date of first service. Obviously to kill any eggs that might have hatched and any stragglers. It's been roughly two months now and no bugs of any sort. SO IMPRESSED!!!”
Will Wright Fitness, Google reviewFrom a Bed Bugs Arizona customer “John was quick, gave us a very complete treatment, explained the whole process and gave us detailed directions on what we need to do and what he would do. We have not had a single issue since (6 months). I highly recommend.”
Laurie Eglinton, Google reviewFrom a Bed Bugs Arizona customer “John came in and took care of the problem with two treatments. I haven't seen any bugs since. What a relief!”

Questions about the treatment
Will it work on bed bugs that are resistant to chemicals?
Yes. The products John uses kill bed bugs that are resistant to treatment.
How long from the first call to the second visit?
A little over two weeks. The inspection is 15 to 30 minutes. Prep is a day or less for most people. The first treatment is about an hour, then 4 hours away from home. The second visit is two weeks later.
Do I have to throw out my mattress or furniture?
Usually not. Wait for the inspection before you throw anything out.
Is Pro-Treat Plus what a general pest company sprays?
No. Bed bugs are the only pest we treat, and Pro-Treat Plus was built for them. In John's experience, a general pest service rarely has the training and experience to get control of bed bugs.
Can Pro-Treat Plus be used in a restaurant or a store?
Yes. Restaurants, bars, stores, salons, and gyms are all places we treat. John's view is that what a building is used for does not matter: if it has bed bugs, he can build a treatment plan for it.
Can I buy the products and treat it myself?
No. We do not sell products, and John never recommends self-treatment. The page on getting rid of bed bugs explains why.
