From general pest control to bed bugs only
John started in pest control in 1982. Before the company was called Bed Bugs Arizona, it was Commercial Pest Management, and it did general pest control as well as bed bugs.
John had major heart surgery and spent six months at home recovering. When he was able to go back to work, he found that the company had been taken advantage of while he was away, and he had to let his employee go. He also saw that he had been spread too thin to do his best work.
So he analyzed his own company to find where his effort should go. He concluded that he could build a good business by treating only bed bugs. The company became Bed Bugs Arizona in 2021, and bed bugs have been the focus of the job since.
How John works
John says he learned early that there are no shortcuts to doing a job right. Cut corners on a bed bug treatment, and you end up with problems and unhappy customers.
He sells the job, and he does the job: In his words: “I do both the sales and the service. It is my reputation on the line.”

A family business
Bed Bugs Arizona is family-owned. John's son, Nicholas Taylor, has worked alongside him the whole time the business was being built and has the same training. They work together on large jobs. Nicholas also runs his own company, Arizona Specialty Services, in Tucson, which covers the southern part of the state and some of the eastern part. His program is identical to John's in every way, including the warranty. He has a larger crew and offers a few more services, such as furniture removal and help with bed bug prep.
The work keeps John busy, sometimes 7 days a week. When he does get time off, he likes day trips around the state and visits with friends and family.
