Bed Bugs Arizona treating a bed frame by hand

The call John gets more than any other goes like this: “I think I have bed bugs. Can you come out today and check for me?” That is what the free inspection is for. John Taylor, the owner, does it himself. Plan on 15 to 30 minutes, depending on how many questions you have.

You do not have to be sure it is bed bugs before you call. If it turns out to be something else, John says so, and you owe nothing.

  • Free, with no obligation to book a treatment
  • Done by the owner, in pest control since 1982
  • A severity rating from 1 to 10 if bed bugs are found
  • Texting a photo first is welcome

Bed Bugs Arizona arriving at a home

First, stay calm. This can be fixed.

People who call us are often anxious, and some are frantic. The first thing John tells them is to stay calm, because this problem can be fixed. Bed bugs are hitchhikers. You can pick them up at a doctor's office, at a restaurant, or from a visitor to your home. You have done nothing wrong, and this is not your fault.

Getting bed bugs is easy, and John says so on the first call. Customers often thank him for easing their anxiety. He treats every customer with respect, and the inspection starts from there.

Until John gets there, do nothing

Do not move things or take furniture apart. Moving things makes it harder to tell whether it is bed bugs. It can spread them to other parts of the building, and furniture set outside can spread them to the neighbors. And people throw out mattresses and couches that could have been treated and kept, then pay to replace them.

It is hard to do nothing when you think you have bed bugs, and John knows that. Some people are so frantic that they just want the furniture gone. He tries to calm them down and save them the cost of replacing it. In the end, it is their choice.

Before the inspection:

  • Do not take anything outside.
  • Do not throw anything away.
  • Do not set off bug bombs.
  • Leave everything where it is.

How soon John can come out in Phoenix and the Valley

Call early enough in the day, and John can often get to you the same day. If he is running behind, he calls you. His schedule is built call by call, around where customers are and when they are home. Phoenix, Tempe, Mesa, and Chandler are where he works most, and he inspects throughout the Valley and beyond. Inspections are done during normal business hours, and John tries to keep them to weekdays. If only a Saturday or Sunday works for you, a weekend visit is possible, as early in the day as he can make it, and there is no extra charge for weekend service.

From your call to John's answer

  1. 1. The phone call

John answers. He asks you to tell him what concerns you, and he sets a time to come out. If you took a clear, close-up photo of what you found, you can text it to 623-451-0541, and John will reply.

  2. 2. John arrives, and you talk first

John introduces himself. He is the owner and the one who performs the treatment. He asks and answers questions before he looks at anything, and he lets you lead the conversation. What you tell him decides where he looks. No two first inspections go the same way because each one follows what the customer needs to discuss.

  3. 3. The search

He begins in the room that worries you, with the beds and the furniture where people spend the most time, and works from there. He works with a flashlight. He is looking for the bed bugs themselves and the signs they leave: spotting, eggs, and the casings they shed as they molt and grow. Bites alone cannot settle it.

The spotting is fecal matter. How much of it John finds, along with eggs and casings, and in how many places, shows him how bad the problem is. The rating and the price both come from that.

How an inspection can end

John tells you plainly what he found and what it means.

It is bed bugs

John rates what he finds on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 the worst. The number puts the problem in perspective and indicates how much prep your home needs. A low number means much less prep than a high one. He explains what he will do and why, gives you an honest, firm price, and schedules the first treatment for when your prep will be done. Every treatment includes a second visit two weeks later and a one-year warranty.

The rating is worth having even if you were sure it was bed bugs before he arrived. It tells you where you stand, and it lets John explain why he is asking for the prep he asks for. Sizing the prep to the problem is one of the main reasons for the inspection. Two homes with the same number are still not the same job, so the plan for yours is built from what John saw in it.

It is another pest

Sometimes it is another pest, carpet beetles, for example. John tells you what he found. We treat bed bugs and nothing else.

Nothing is found

Sometimes there are bites and no cause John can find. In that case, he asks you to monitor for a few days and call him if anything changes.

What John asks of you

Tell him plainly what has been going on, and do all of the prep he gives you.

The price comes at the inspection

We never quote over the phone. The price we quote is the price we charge, and it covers both visits and the warranty.

What the neighbors will see

Arizona requires our name and license number on the truck, so both are there, in lettering that almost blends into the black paint. The uniform carries no logo or company name. If a truck in front of your home still worries you, John will park in front of any neighbor's house you choose.

People ask whether the neighbors or the landlord will find out. John's answer: only if you tell them.

Before you let John into your bedroom

An inspection means letting someone into the most private rooms of your home. Asked what he would want a customer to know before that, John said he is highly trained, he has years of experience, and he backs the work with a one-year warranty. He also asks people to read his reviews and see what his customers say about him.

Inspections for rentals, businesses, and disputes

John inspects more than single-family homes. Here is how it works in each case.

SituationWhat to know
A tenant who calls us directlyJohn deals with you and explains the prep.
A landlord or property managerManagement arranges access and the tenant's prep.
Moving in or moving outJohn inspects the unit at the start or end of a tenancy, and between tenants when a manager needs it.
An office or other workplaceThe plan is built with management; the commercial page explains how.
A hotelJohn speaks only with the people management has approved.
A medical facilityThese are the most urgent calls John gets, because part or all of the building may be shut down until it is treated.
A mobile home, an RV, or a vehicleJohn inspects these too; ask him when you call.

Move-in and move-out inspections are free. Any customer can request a written report on what John found. For a dispute between a landlord and a tenant, the landlord-tenant page explains what John can put in writing.

What Phoenix-area customers say about the inspection

  • From a Bed Bugs Arizona customer
“John was the best. He did inform me that while I did have an infestation, it was not that bad. About a 2 on a scale of 1-10. He was very kind and informed me of everything I needed to do to prepare.”
    Alex Young, Google review
  • From a Bed Bugs Arizona customer
“I contacted John and explained why I was concerned that I may have an infestation. He scheduled an inspection for the next day. Based upon what I shared once he arrived, John suspected that I had a bed bug problem. Thankfully, after a thorough inspection, he determined there were no bugs present and no need for services. I am extremely grateful for his speedy response and honest assessment. I strongly recommend this company, and although I pray I never need the service, Bed Bugs Arizona will be my first call if I have future concerns.”
    Ms. Clay, Google review
  • From a Bed Bugs Arizona customer
“He inspected my sofa, flipped it over and looked underneath, took the cushions off and looked in the creases, and determined I don't have bedbugs. He thought possibly it's mosquitos biting me, or something like that. I'm just happy that whatever it is will probably be easier to solve than bedbugs would have been. He didn't charge me for the inspection, another thing I'm grateful for.”

Questions about the inspection

Is the inspection really free?

Yes, on every job, whether it turns out to be bed bugs or not, and whether you book a treatment. The one exception is a whole building that would take hours to go through.

How long does the inspection take?

Between 15 and 30 minutes. Most of the difference is conversation, so bring every question you have.

Can you treat on the same day as the inspection?

Usually not. The prep has to be done first, so most treatments are the next day.

Will the price change after the inspection?

No. It is a firm price, with no upsells and no surprises.

Will I be pushed to book?

No. John gives you the price and answers your questions. The decision is yours.

Do you use a dog or leave monitors behind?

No. There is no dog, and we do not leave monitors or interceptors behind.

Can I check your license before John comes out?

Yes. Our license is AZ #8129, and the Arizona Department of Agriculture lets consumers look up a pest management company's license status, online or in writing.

I rent. Can I call for an inspection myself?

Yes. Who pays for a treatment is between you and your landlord, and the landlord-tenant page covers how that usually goes.

Not sure? Call John.
